UFC: Israel Adesanya losses to Joe Pyfer, his 4th in a row

Israel Adesanya suffered his fourth consecutive defeat after being stopped by rising American contender Joe Pyfer via technical knockout in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Sunday.

Pyfer (16-3) delivered a career-defining performance, finishing the former middleweight champion at 4:18 of the second round at the Climate Pledge Arena.

The highly anticipated clash saw Adesanya (24-6) start brightly with sharp movement and striking in the opening round, but Pyfer weathered the early pressure before turning the tide with powerful punches and a decisive takedown.

In the second round, Pyfer landed heavy strikes against the fence, dragged Adesanya to the canvas, transitioned to full mount, and unleashed a barrage of ground-and-pound that forced referee Herb Dean to wave off the contest.

After the victory, Pyfer expressed his aggressive mindset:

“I just have this mentality where I don’t care; I’m going to search and destroy,” he said.

Despite the loss, Adesanya remained defiant about his future in the sport.

“I’m just going to keep going and going and going,” he stated after the fight.

The defeat marks Adesanya’s fourth straight loss, raising fresh questions about the 36-year-old Nigerian-New Zealander’s future in the middleweight division, which he once dominated.

For Pyfer, the impressive win over a former champion is a major statement and could push him deeper into the title picture.

The result caps off a tough period for Adesanya, who has not won since regaining the middleweight title in April 2023.
