War: Israel receives first missile attacks from Yemen

The Israeli military said that it has detected the launch of a missile from Yemen, following threats from Iran’s Houthi allies to join in the conflict.
A military communiqué stated that Israeli forces had “identified the launch of a missile from Yemen directed at Israeli territory, and aerial defense systems are actively engaged to intercept the threat.”
This marks the first official statement regarding a missile launch from Yemen during the ongoing war, which has now entered its second month.
The announcement, made early on Saturday, comes after reports the day before indicated that Iran had targeted Tel Aviv with at least five missile strikes over a span of five hours, activating air defense systems and warning sirens late Friday and into Saturday.
This incident represents the first missile launch from Yemen since the onset of the war. The launch occurred shortly after the Iran-aligned Houthis declared on Friday their readiness to respond if what they termed an escalation against Iran and the “axis of resistance” persisted.
The involvement of the Houthis in the conflict could heighten the likelihood of a wider regional confrontation, especially considering their capability to target areas well beyond Yemen and disrupt shipping routes throughout the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea, as they had previously done in support of Hamas in Gaza following October 7, 2023.
Iran’s Shi’ite allies in Lebanon and Iraq have already entered the conflict in the region, which was ignited by US and Israeli strikes on Tehran four weeks ago.
