Group urges Ibas to ensure smooth handover to Fubara

PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers Peace Initiative (RPI) has called on the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ikot-Ete Ibas (rtd), to ensure a transparent and seamless handover of power to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday as the state returns to democratic governance.

The group made the call during a peace walk in Port Harcourt under the theme “United for Peace, United for Rivers.” The event drew participation from civil society leaders, faith leaders, professionals, entertainers, and market leaders.

Presenting a solidarity letter to the Sole Administrator at Government House, RPI Convener, Obinna Ebogidi, commended Ibas for his stewardship during the transition period, noting that history would remember his role in sustaining peace amid tension and uncertainty.

“As your tenure as Sole Administrator draws to a close, Rivers State stands at a delicate crossroads,” Ebogidi said. “We have seen that peace is possible when leaders exercise restraint and when citizens embrace dialogue over violence. Safeguard the gains of peace made under your watch and ensure that the handover is seamless and marked by goodwill.”

He stressed that the fragile calm in the state must not be sabotaged by political actors or vested interests and urged all stakeholders to consolidate on the peace achieved during the emergency period.

The group pledged its support to Governor Fubara in advancing reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusive governance as Rivers State resumes democratic leadership.
