Benue govt probes viral video of musician performing indecently before students

The Benue State Government has opened an investigation into a viral video that captured a musician, identified as Egyptian Cairo, performing a song with explicit and indecent lyrics before students in a secondary school.
The probe, spearheaded by the Benue State Bureau for Education Quality Assurance, BEQA), follows widespread public outrage over the footage circulating on social media.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director General of BEQA, Dr Terna Francis, confirmed that preliminary findings traced the incident to Foundation College, Abeda Shitile.
He described the performance as “a gross violation of moral and ethical standards” expected in educational environments, warning that such acts undermine the values of discipline and decency that the state’s education system upholds.
“While we recognise that education encompasses the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains including creative forms of expression such as music vulgarity, obscenity, and moral decadence have absolutely no place in our schools.
The Bureau will not condone any act that corrupts the moral fabric of our learners,” the statement read in part.
Dr Francis assured that a full-scale investigation is underway to establish how the musician gained access to the school and the level of involvement of the institution’s management.
He noted that the findings will be submitted to the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management for appropriate disciplinary measures.
He also appealed for calm from the public, promising that those found culpable would face necessary sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.
Reaffirming the Bureau’s mandate, Dr Francis stated that BEQA remains committed to maintaining academic integrity and moral excellence across all schools in the state, aligning with the vision of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for a disciplined, value-driven, and morally upright education system in Benue State.
