World Cup: Mbappe overtakes Messi in race for Golden Boot ahead of final [Top 7]

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has now opened a lead in the race to win the Golden Boot at the 2026 World Cup.

Mbappe scored a brace as Les Bleus lost 6-4 to England in the third-place play-off on Saturday night.

It means the 27-year-old finished the tournament with 10 goals and four assists.

Mbappe is now ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who has eight goals and four assists.

Messi will have the chance to add to those numbers, when he faces Spain in the final on Sunday.
