Police arrest suspected kidnapper, recover weapons in Nasarawa

One suspected kidnapper in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State is now in police net, the State Police Command has confirmed.

The command made the confirmation in a statement issued by its spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel.

The arrest of the suspected kidnapper, according to the statement was a major breakthrough made through the command’s sustained efforts to combat criminality in the state.

Nansel said, “The Police Mobile Force (PMF) 38 Akwanga Unit Command received a report about the suspect on Friday, March 20, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The credible intelligence indicated that a suspected kidnapper was sighted in possession of a firearm within the area.”

He explained that a team of Mobile Police operatives was immediately deployed to the scene, stressing that they successfully apprehended the 32-year-old male suspect.

According to him, the suspect is from Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community of Awe Local Government Area of the state.

Upon arrest, he explained that a search conducted on the suspect resulted to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56mm ammunition.

The spokesman stated that the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation, assuring that the police will continue investigation to apprehend other members of the criminal network in order to curtail criminal activities in the state.

The statement explained that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, expressed the command’s determination to ensure safety and security of all residents in the state.
