Police arrest 16 suspects for various crimes in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects for various criminal offences in the state.
Police Commissioner, Ojo Adekimi, who disclosed this at a press conference on Friday in Ilorin, said the suspects were arrested in September.
Among the 16 suspects, one, Mohammadu Jalo, was arrested for the alleged murder of a motorcycle mechanic (name withheld) at Bode-Saadu in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to the Commissioner of Police , “on September 17, 2025, at about 1 pm, a report received at the Bode-Saadu Police Station revealed that Mohammadu Jalo had visited the motorcycle mechanic to collect his motorcycle which was under repair.
“A heated argument ensued during which Mohammadu Jalo drew a machete and severed the head of the motorcycle mechanic.”
The Commissioner of Police said that following the report, a swift response by police operatives led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the machete used to commit the crime.
Adekimi said the suspect confessed to the crime and would be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations into the matter.
Six other kidnap suspects arrested include Sanni Gbadamosi and Muhammadu Bello, who was found with 50 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition; Saleh Ibrahim, alleged to have rustled 48 cattle; and Abubakar Yusuf, Tukur Yahaya, and Kabiru Muhammed, who were allegedly intercepted while plotting to kidnap a businesswoman who frequently travels on the Iponrin–Oke-Oyi route.
The Police Commissioner stated that while four other suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy and possession of hard drugs, two others were apprehended for the alleged theft of a tricycle and receiving stolen property.
Two additional suspects were also arrested for the alleged defilement of a minor and the sexual abuse and exploitation of a 10-year-old child.
Adekimi reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and combating all forms of criminal activity within the state.
