Plateau gov addresses residents from armoured tank after attack

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday assured residents of justice and announced a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba.

The governor, who visited the scene of the Sunday night incident, also pledged that perpetrators would be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted, while the state government would fund medical treatment for injured victims and organise a befitting burial for the deceased.

The attack, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on March 29, 2026, has heightened tensions in the community, prompting increased security operations across the area.

In a video circulating online, Mutfwang was seen standing atop a bulletproof armoured vehicle as he addressed agitated youths, speaking partly in Hausa and appealing for calm.

He urged residents not to take the law into their hands, assuring them that security agencies were monitoring the situation.

Describing the incident as painful, the governor noted that Angwan Rukuba is a diverse community with residents from different ethnic backgrounds, adding that the tragedy affected all.

“This is a painful thing for all of us. Angwan-Rukuba is a community that harbours every ethnic nationality in Plateau; I personally have relations that have lived in Angwan-Rukuba. Therefore, this is a pain to all of us,” he said in part.

“It is not just to a few people; I want to plead with you; please let us not take the laws into our hands, I beg you.

He further assured families of the victims of government support, including burial arrangements, and reiterated that the administration would take full responsibility for hospital bills of those injured.

Mutfwang also disclosed that the president had been briefed on the development, stressing that efforts were ongoing to ensure justice for the victims.
