… says INEC to deploy 4,427 BVAS for poll

The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, has pledged that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s poll workers for the August 15 governorship poll will be waiting for voters at the various polling units across the State.

-Addressing reporters at a briefing to state the commission’s level of preparedness for the election, she said the commission’s major objective is to improve the timeliness of its Supervisory Polling Officers (SPOs) and Polling Officers (POs).

She also disclosed that the commission will deploy 4,427 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the poll, which will be used for voter accreditation and authentication.

According to her, the commission has set a standard that it can no longer afford to fall below in Ekiti State. SPOs and POs are at the polling station earlier than voters. In Osun, I promise we will be waiting for voters across polling units; voters won’t wait for us.

“To achieve this, we have met with transport unions on the need for proper arrangements and even held a workshop with their members on the need to have a successful election. Also, our RAC will open early in the morning or afternoon to allow SPOs and POs familiarise with the environment”, she said.

To ensure the poll’s credibility, she disclosed that the commission will deploy 4,427 personnel across polling units to conduct voter accreditation and authentication.

“For the August 15 poll, a total of 3,763 BVAS will be deployed for the election, and an additional 664 BVAS will also be set aside as backups.

“In addition to voter Accreditation, the BVAS will be used to upload polling unit results directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) for enhanced transparency and for the public to have access to PU election results.

“All the BVAS devices are already charged, awaiting configuration, which shall be carried out close to the election”, she added.
