Navy appoints Folorunsho as new spokesman

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment of Captain Abiodun Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information and Spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy.
Captain Folorunsho took over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Adams-Aliu, who served in the position for over two years, has been redeployed to a higher strategic appointment as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Navy’s premier base.
The new spokesman, who was born on December 27, 1979, in Benin City, Edo State, was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in September 2003 as a Sub-Lieutenant after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 50 Regular Course.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy, a Master’s degree in War Studies (Maritime) from the National Defence University, Pakistan, a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Defence Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, a Master’s degree in Energy Management from the World Maritime University, Sweden, and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.
He also possesses a Graduate Certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology from the same institution.
Captain Folorunsho has attended several local and international professional courses, including the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and the Pakistan Navy War College, respectively, as well as courses at the Naval War College of Nigeria and the United Nations Training Centre in Sweden.
In the course of his career, he has served on board several Nigerian Navy ships and in various command and staff appointments, including operations duties under Operation SAFE HAVEN, Commanding Officer of the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defence and Firefighting School, Sapele, Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and Military Liaison Officer at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
Until his recent appointment, he was the Chief Instructor, Department of Maritime Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and later Assistant Director, Plans/CNS Directive at the Naval Headquarters.
Captain Folorunsho is a recipient of several awards and decorations, including the Chief of the Naval Staff Award for Best Graduating Student, the United Nations Medal, Meritorious Service Star and General Operations Medal, among others.
