Lagos arrests 107 beggars, miscreants in Agege, Ketu raids

The Lagos State Government has arrested 107 beggars and suspected miscreants during an enforcement operation carried out in parts of the state as part of efforts to curb street begging and maintain order in public spaces.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the commissioner, the arrests were made during an ongoing monitoring and enforcement patrol carried out in the Agege and Ketu areas of the state.
He explained that the operation began in Agege, where officials apprehended 25 beggars during the patrol exercise.
“During our ongoing monitoring and enforcement patrol today, 25 beggars were arrested in Agege as part of efforts to address street begging and restore order in public spaces,” Wahab said.
The commissioner added that the enforcement team later moved to Ketu, where more individuals were arrested as the operation continued.
“The patrol team has since moved to Ketu, and as of 1200hrs, a total of 86 beggars, nine children, and 12 miscreants have been apprehended across the areas covered,” he stated.
Wahab further disclosed that those arrested during the operation would undergo proper profiling before being handed over to relevant government agencies for further action.
“Those arrested will be profiled and handed over to the appropriate government agencies for further action in line with existing laws and social intervention protocols,” he said.
The commissioner also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining the enforcement exercise across different parts of Lagos.
“We will continue these operations to discourage street begging, protect vulnerable persons, and maintain order across Lagos,” Wahab added.
