Kebbi govt hits back at critics, says allegations against Idris politically motivated

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed a circulating write-up by a group identifed as “Concerned Citizens of Kebbi State,” describing the allegations against Governor Nasir Idris’ administration as false.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, said the publication was intended to misinform the public and distort the administration’s record.

He said allegations of decaying infrastructure and a worsening electricity situation were misleading, noting that electricity supply in the state is under the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO.

“For clarity, electricity supply is handled by KEDCO. The state government supports the company with N150 million monthly to improve supply,” he said.

The CPS also denied claims of a decline in the education sector, stating that the government had undertaken interventions such as classroom construction, teacher recruitment and expansion of the school feeding programme.

According to the statement, the administration has built and renovated classrooms, established new schools, hired additional teachers and increased the school feeding budget. It also noted that teachers’ minimum wage and retirement age had been reviewed.

On security, the government said parts of Kebbi South previously affected by banditry had recorded improvement following support to security agencies, including the provision of patrol vehicles, motorcycles and allowances.

The statement added that the government is engaging partners to attract investment into agriculture, mining, health and education.

Idris said the allegations were politically motivated.
