Hidden bomb neutralised by troops in Niger

Troops operating in Niger State have successfully uncovered and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along a major route, preventing what could have caused serious harm to both civilians and security personnel.
The development was made known in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the operation was carried out by troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD during an ongoing offensive along the Wawa–Babana road in Borgu Local Government Area.
The troops, drawn from the 22 Brigade Sector 1 of Operation Safe Secure Support (OPSS) and working alongside the 221 Battalion, were said to be on patrol around 10:00 a.m. on March 25.
They were reportedly assessing a bridge earlier damaged by an IED explosion when they encountered the hidden explosive threat.
During the operation, the soldiers created an alternative path to bypass the damaged section of the road and continued their movement along the axis.
As they advanced further towards Luma, another IED was discovered along the route.
The device was later recovered and safely disposed of by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
