Insecurity: Come up with security emergency plan to end killings, group tells Tinubu

ASABA – THE Delta Democrats Forum, DDF, yesterday, called on President Bola Tinubu to come up with a national security emergency plan to end killings and swift economic reforms that put Nigerians first.

The group, in a statement by it’s Convener, Comrade Ufuoma Atare, lamented the worsening insecurity and economic misery ravaging the country, saying that a government that could not secure its people or feed its people had lost moral authority.

“Today, Nigerians live in fear. Criminals are freely terrorising villages, highways, farmlands, and urban centres. The nation has witnessed a horrifying escalation of kidnappings, bandit attacks, and terror incidents”, the statement said.

Saying that hunger has spread across the land like wildfire, the statement noted that “The abrupt removal of petrol subsidy without shock absorbers, the free fall of the naira, unbearable food prices, blistering electricity tariffs, and suffocating taxation have pushed millions into extreme poverty.

“Families can no longer afford basic meals. Workers’ salaries have become worthless Businesses are suffocating.

A government that cannot secure its people or feed its people has lost moral authority.

The statement accused the National Assembly of choosing comfort over courage.

It said; “Rather than defend the people, the National Assembly has chosen to defend power.

“Instead of grilling the Executive on insecurity, hunger, and economic collapse, it continues to approve loans, endorse anti-people policies, and watch silently as Nigerians suffer. This dangerous complacency is enabling the collapse of our nation”.

The statement called for urgent and massive funding of security agencies, including modern equipment, welfare, and logistics.
