‘Enough of Litigations,’ Wike-backed PDP group urges as BoT pushes for party unity

ABUJA — A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has called on party members to end prolonged legal disputes and focus on reconciliation and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 86th meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT), chaired by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, said recent court rulings should encourage members to put an end to internal litigations.

“The court has once again affirmed that the rule of law must prevail in our party’s internal affairs. I call on all stakeholders and leaders to unite for the progress of the party. Enough of litigations that could delay our activities towards the 2027 general election,” he said.

The meeting also reviewed the party’s roadmap for upcoming political activities, including state congresses and the planned National Convention.

In his remarks, Ohuabunwa described the gathering as a “defining moment” for the PDP and urged members to approach party matters with wisdom and reflection.

“As the Board of Trustees, we are custodians of the party’s values and constitutional integrity. This moment calls for calm reflection and commitment to unity,” he said.

Ohuabunwa noted that the PDP had recently conducted ward and local government congresses across the country, which he said were largely peaceful and reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

He expressed optimism that the forthcoming state congresses would further strengthen party structures nationwide. He added that preparations were underway for the party’s National Convention scheduled for March 29–30, which he said would help reposition the PDP and reaffirm its commitment to democratic principles and national service.

The BoT chairman also acknowledged recent Court of Appeal judgments which he said affirmed the legality and authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

“These judicial pronouncements have provided clarity and stability within the party. As a law-abiding political organisation, we respect the decisions of the courts and will continue to conduct our affairs in accordance with the rule of law and the provisions of our party constitution,” Ohuabunwa added.
