Ekiti Police launch violence crime response unit to tackle insecurity

Ado-Ekiti—The Ekiti State Police Command has launched a Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to strengthen the security of lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, said the unit was established in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to enhance crime response and prevention.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti during the inauguration, Falade described the VCRU as a rapid-response outfit designed to tackle violent crimes and respond swiftly to distress calls.

He explained that the unit became necessary due to the evolving nature of criminal activities and the need for a specialised team to address emerging security challenges.

According to him, operatives of the unit have commenced intensive tactical and intelligence-driven training ahead of full deployment.

The Commissioner charged officers to maintain professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights, warning that the Command would not tolerate misconduct or abuse of power.

He also called on residents to support the unit with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

Falade commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his support to the Command, particularly in providing logistics and operational resources, which he said have contributed to recent gains in tackling crime.

In his remarks, Secretary of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ekiti State, Lawrence Ogunsetire, pledged the committee’s support, assuring that communities would be mobilised to work closely with the new unit.

Also speaking, the National Provost Marshal, Joshua Makinde, expressed confidence that the VCRU would complement existing security efforts within the Command.
