Easter: NRC rolls out special train services, free ride on Lagos–Osogbo corridor

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced special train service arrangements for the Easter season to cater to the anticipated surge in passenger traffic across its major corridors nationwide.

In a statement issued by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the Corporation said it has introduced additional trips and special services to ensure smooth travel during the holiday period.

For the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS), three trips have been scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026. Departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta, will take place at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while trains will leave Obafemi Awolowo Station at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.

The NRC also disclosed plans for a special Easter service on the narrow gauge corridor in collaboration with the Osun State Government.

The service, which will be free for passengers, will depart Iddo Station for Osogbo on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a return trip scheduled for Monday, April 6, at the same time.

Meanwhile, the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will maintain its regular timetable, running two trips on Thursdays and three trips on Fridays through Mondays between Idu Station and Rigasa Station.

On the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, operations will continue daily except Thursdays, which remain dedicated to maintenance.

Trains from Warri to Itakpe will run on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while return services will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon.

Similarly, the Port Harcourt–Aba Train Service on the Eastern narrow gauge will continue its routine operations, departing Port Harcourt at 8:00 a.m. and returning from Aba at 3:00 p.m.

The Corporation assured passengers of safe, reliable, and efficient services across all routes, urging travelers to plan ahead, arrive early at stations, and comply with ticketing and security procedures.
