DAILY POST’s Gift Oba emerges Treasurer as Fatungase leads new Ogun Correspondents’ Chapel exco

DAILY POST correspondent in Ogun State, Gift Oba, has emerged as Treasurer of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council.

Oba, a vibrant and dedicated female journalist known for her consistency, professionalism and active participation in the chapel’s activities, emerged as treasurer on Wednesday during the chapel’s leadership transition in Abeokuta.

She will be in charge of the financial administration of the chapel under the new executive led by Comrade Yetunde Fatungase of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, who emerged as Chairperson.

Other members of the executive include Hakeem Adegbenro of Blueprint as Secretary, Lauretta Oaihimire of Standard Times as Financial Secretary and Kola Olayinka of Business Ng as Assistant Secretary.

The new leadership was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of the NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, at the chapel’s secretariat.

In her acceptance speech, Fatungase, a Senior Editor with NAN, pledged to lead with fairness, transparency, humility and respect for all members.

She said leadership was not about occupying a position but about serving those who entrusted the responsibility to the leadership, noting that the chapel had its challenges including grievances among members.

“We may not always agree on every issue, but we can disagree without bitterness, personal attacks or division,” she said.

Fatungase appealed for unity, constructive criticism and commitment to professionalism, adding that “there is room for everyone at the table, and together, through mutual respect and genuine dialogue, we can move this association forward”.

In his remarks, Olanrewaju charged the new executive to prioritise unity and strengthen the relationship between the Correspondents’ Chapel and the State Council.

“What do we need from you? Unity. There’s no rivalry between council and the chapel,” he said.

He urged the leadership to build stronger ties with other chapels and avoid turning the chapel into a platform for personal ego.

“If the Correspondents’ Chapel supports the council, we will hold powers to account,” Olanrewaju added.
