Bauchi CJ swears in 31 Sharia Court judges

The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Rabi Umar, has sworn in newly appointed Sharia Court judges, charging them to dispense justice with integrity, impartiality and a strong sense of responsibility.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at High Court No. 1 premises, on Wednesday in Bauchi.
Justice Umar said the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man and urged the judges to perform their duties without fear or favour.
Umar also emphasised the need for fairness, diligence and strict adherence to the rule of law, noting that public trust in the judiciary depends largely on the conduct of judicial officers.
She cautioned the judges against issuing orders outside their jurisdiction, particularly restraining security agencies from carrying out their lawful duties.
She warned that any act of misconduct would not be tolerated.
The Chief Judge further underscored the importance of continuous learning, ethical behaviour and professionalism.
She urged the judges to justify the confidence reposed in them following a rigorous selection process.
Umar said that the newly inaugurated judges are expected to handle various civil matters.
“They will also handle disputes relating to land, family and commercial issues within their jurisdictions, thereby strengthening justice delivery at the grassroots,” she said.
The CJ also commended members of the Judicial Service Commission and the appointment committee for their diligence and transparency in the selection process.
Mr Muhammad Salihu, on behalf of the appointees, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
He pledged that the judges would discharge their duties with honesty and dedication.
