APC’s Ukachukwu and AAC’s Ifemeludike decry vote buying

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, have raised concerns over alleged vote buying during the ongoing election.

Ukachukwu, who cast his ballot at Polling Unit 012, Osumenyi Ward 2, Umudiala Village, Nnewi South LGA, at around 11:38 a.m., described the practice as criminal and a threat to the integrity of the democratic process. He warned that attempts to influence voters with money undermine citizens’ civil responsibility and the credibility of elections.

“This is really criminal. It is totally absurd and doesn’t make any sense. If a party claims to have all the popularity, why then are they buying votes?” Ukachukwu said. He noted that such actions not only pollute the political system but also divert resources that could have been used for environmental and human development.

Ukachukwu further condemned the targeting of elderly voters, describing it as an exploitation of their vulnerability and ignorance.

Similarly, Chioma Ifemeludike, the AAC governorship candidate, expressed dismay over vote buying, emphasizing that such practices erode public trust in the electoral process and undermine the fundamental principles of democracy.

Both candidates called for stricter monitoring and enforcement by electoral and security authorities to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
