ADC demands immediate cap on fuel price hike

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has called on the Federal Government to immediately introduce a temporary and time-bound cap on petrol prices to prevent further increases that are worsening the cost-of-living crisis for millions of Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the recent surge in petrol prices reflects growing volatility in global oil markets, partly driven by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
However, the opposition party argued that external shocks should not be used as justification for allowing fuel prices to rise unchecked in an already fragile economy.
According to the party, many Nigerians are still grappling with the economic impact of the fuel subsidy removal by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The government must act decisively to shield citizens from the harsh consequences of global oil market fluctuations,” the statement said.
The ADC stressed that a temporary price cap would serve as a protective measure to stabilize fuel costs while the government explores sustainable long-term solutions for the energy sector.
The party warned that without immediate intervention, continued increases in petrol prices could further strain household incomes, worsen inflation, and deepen economic hardship across the country.
