10th Senate: Akpabio’s aide tasks Nigerians on constitution amendment

As the Senate resumes plenary tomorrow, Tuesday, Kenny Okolugboan, media aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio has enjoined Nigerians to play an active role in the constitution amendment process.

Okolugbo, in a statement he made available to DAILY POST on Monday, harped on the imperative of taking advantage of the public hearings which are part of the constitution amendment process.

“As the National Assembly resumes tomorrow 7th October 2025 let us all ensure our voices will be heard during the public hearings for the amendment of the constitution,” he urged the Nigerian masses.

He went further to attribute the gains being experienced in the stability of the Naira to the result of “direct interventions by the Senate in policy shaping of this administration.”

Okolugbo outlined other major roles being played by the Senate towards putting the country on the right track.

“The Tax bill which was almost thrown out but now has been passed into law.

“NELFUND, passed into law, has ensured students that can’t pay their fees get a loan and will not pay back until they are gainfully employed.

“The five development commissions, South East, South West, South South, North West and North Central all signed into law and have been established ensuring development is brought nearer to the people.

“Minimum wage act where salaries were increased by 100% and ensuring that those earning minimum wage do not pay tax again.

“This is just a few out of the fifty two bills passed by the 10th Senate, signed by the President and Commander in Chief.

“Over ninety bills have been passed, another two hundred at different reading stages.

“In fact, what the 10th senate has achieved can only be described as uncommon.

“The Senate despite not receiving the medium term expenditure framework and fiscal strategy paper from the Executive have already swung into action to ensure that the capital projects of 2024 and 2025 budget is not lost by making an extension,” he disclosed.

Okolugbo also hinted that a security summit to find the root cause of insecurity in the country is to be convened, adding that “electricity act to ensure that no increase in tariffs for light bills we do not always have is in place.”

On the good working relationship with the executive, he justified it, stating that “the act of making laws and oversight functions the main duties of the legislature does not have to be effective by mere being confrontational.”

He remarked that the Senate under Akpabio had shown capacity to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
