Troops repel attack on illegal mining site in Plateau

Troops have repelled an attack by gunmen on an illegal mining site in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on Thursday on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to security sources cited in the post, the attack happened around 9:00 p.m. on March 24 at a mining site in Rim village, where unidentified gunmen reportedly tried to seize tin from miners.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), under Sector 6, quickly responded to the attack and engaged the assailants, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes.

During the incident, one miner identified as Hanya Alamba was killed, while another victim, Mr. Gyang, sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured victim was taken to the General Hospital in Riyom for treatment.

Security sources said troops have since taken control of the area and increased patrols to prevent further attacks.
