YABATECH steps up AI education

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has taken a notable step towards embedding artificial intelligence (AI) into its academic offering, as more than 300 staff, students and alumni gathered for a one-day intensive training on the responsible use of the technology.

The programme, organised in partnership with the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, centred on the ethical and practical implications of AI. Sessions explored responsible deployment of AI tools, decision-making frameworks, cyber safety and data privacy, areas increasingly seen as critical as adoption accelerates across sectors.

Speaking at the event, the Rector, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to digital transformation and global collaboration. He said the college aims to position its graduates at the cutting edge of emerging technologies, while maintaining a strong grounding in integrity and social responsibility.

Guest speaker Omoju Miller, Chief Executive of FIMIO, challenged participants to move beyond consuming imported technologies and instead become active contributors to the global AI ecosystem.
