US charity supports Benue attack victims, pays hospital bills

MAKURDI — Survivors of the recent attack on Sai community in Mbajir, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, have received relief materials and medical assistance from United States-based faith-based humanitarian organisation, Equipping The Persecuted (ETP).

The intervention followed the June 30 attack on the community by suspected armed herders, which reportedly claimed more than nine lives, injured over 20 people and displaced several families.

Leading the ETP delegation to the community, the organisation’s Benue State Representative, Mr. Andy Nomsoor, described the attack as a tragedy and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting victims of violence and persecution.

He said although humanitarian assistance could not replace the lives lost, the organisation remained committed to helping survivors recover, rebuild their lives and return to their communities safely.

Nomsoor called on governments at all levels to strengthen measures to protect vulnerable communities across Benue State, stressing the need for sustained efforts to prevent recurring attacks.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Benue-born legal practitioner, Mr. Franc Utoo, for drawing international attention to the plight of affected communities and mobilising humanitarian support.

Nomsoor further commended the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Equipping The Persecuted, Mr. Judd Saul, for responding promptly to the needs of the victims and for the organisation’s continued humanitarian work.

Speaking on behalf of the community, President General of the Mbajir Development Association, Mr. Peter Uungwa, thanked the organisation for its support during the difficult period.

He expressed appreciation to Equipping The Persecuted, Franc Utoo and Judd Saul for bringing international attention to the community’s situation and providing practical assistance to victims.

As part of the intervention, the organisation distributed relief materials to affected households and paid the medical bills of more than 20 victims receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack, including internally displaced persons admitted at NKST Hospital.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance and appealed to the government, humanitarian organisations and well-meaning individuals to continue supporting victims of recurring attacks in Benue State.
