Taraba killings: Tutare calls for arrest, prosecution of perpetrators
The Taraba state governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare, has expressed concern over the frequent attacks on peaceful communities across the state, particularly in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido local government areas.
Tutare described the situation as worrisome and unacceptable.
He spoke on Sunday in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council, Saidu Sadiq Adamu.
The candidate condemned the killing of dozens of residents of Binnari community in Karim-Lamido local government council and called on the governments to take urgent measures to protect lives and property.
While expressing solidarity with the affected community, he noted that every citizen has a constitutional right to life, welfare and property.
"The primary responsibility of government was to safeguard these rights and ensure the security of citizens, particularly those living in vulnerable communities," Tutare said.
In the same vein, he urged the state and federal governments, as well as the security agencies, to move beyond expressions of concern and implement proactive measures to prevent further attacks.
He equally called for the immediate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable communities and the provision of adequate resources to address existing security gaps.
The candidate urged the relevant authorities to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings and ensure their prosecution in accordance with the law.
"Holding the perpetrators accountable would serve as a deterrent to others and strengthen efforts to protect lives and property across the state," he argued.
