Sporting Lagos have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), a significant milestone for the Lagos-based club after two seasons in the second division.
The club confirmed their place in the top flight after securing a decisive 1-0 victory over Osun United on Thursday.
Alex Leme scored the decisive goal for Jeremy Butler’s men in the 17th minute of the encounter following a cross by Aliyu Baba.
The final whistle confirmed a significant milestone for the club, marking their return to Nigeria’s top-flight league after spending two seasons in the second tier- the Nigerian National League (NNL).
Sporting Lagos finished top of the Conference B table with 36 points from 18 matches, while Akwa United finished in second position despite a 2-1 victory over Solution FC.
They become the third team to secure promotion to the NPFL this season, following Doma United and Inter Lagos’ earlier qualifications.
With the club’s promotion, the number of Lagos-based clubs in the league rises to three. They join Inter Lagos and Ikorodu City as the other Lagos teams in the NPFL for the 2026/27 season.
