South-East governors to fully support Tinubu in 2027 — Uzodimma

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has said the five governors of the South-East have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing what he described as the administration’s developmental strides across the region.

Uzodimma made the statement in Owerri during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council.

According to him, although the governors belong to different political parties, they have agreed to work with President Tinubu because of what they consider tangible federal interventions in the South-East.

He said the governors had assessed the performance of the Tinubu administration in the region and concluded that continued collaboration with the Federal Government was in the best interest of the South-East.

“We, the five governors of the South-East, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the governors would soon pay a joint courtesy visit to President Tinubu to strengthen their partnership with the Federal Government.

Uzodimma urged politicians to refrain from using Igbo platforms to spread what he described as propaganda, insisting that the people of the region would continue to support leaders based on performance.

According to him, the decision of the governors was informed by federal projects and policies implemented in the South-East, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Aba rail line, and approval of the reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

He also cited ongoing construction of access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, the Otuocha-Anam-Abaji Road, and the Oba-Nnewi-Uga-Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to the region.

The governor further said the South-East had benefited from broader national policies of the Tinubu administration, including increased allocations to states, the student loan programme, security initiatives and fiscal reforms.

“The South-East has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” he said.

On state affairs, Uzodimma urged members of the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers to support the implementation of the state’s Charter of Equity.

He described the law as a framework for ensuring fairness, justice and political stability through the rotation of political offices.

“The Charter of Equity is real, and I need your mandate to implement it because that is what will bring lasting peace to Imo State,” he said.

Uzodimma maintained that his successor should emerge in line with the Charter of Equity and possess the integrity and commitment needed to sustain the achievements of his administration.

He also warned against attempts to undermine the law for political interests, saying he would defend the Charter of Equity.

The governor further advocated greater investment in skills acquisition and vocational education, describing them as key to reducing unemployment, curbing crime and promoting sustainable economic growth in the state.

He called on traditional rulers to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at maintaining peace, promoting development and ensuring inclusive progress in Imo State.
