Son, mother face trial over alleged plot to kill father in Kano

A young man, Nura Usman and his mother, Izzatu Aminu have been arraigned before Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano, on charges of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The suspects are accused of plotting to kill Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono, at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano.

They allegedly hired an assassin and paid him N500,000 to carry out the killing. However, instead of carrying out the assignment, the alleged assassin reportedly informed Shanono of the plan.

According to reports, Shanono and the assassin staged his death to make the accused believe the operation had been successful. The assassin reportedly took Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal belongings and presented them as proof of the alleged killing.

The accused were said to have announced Shanono’s death, prompting relatives and sympathisers to gather for mourning.

However, the situation took a new turn when Shanono later appeared alongside security operatives, revealing that his death had been faked.

The case, before Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, has been adjourned until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
