Sinner wins Miami Open, completes dominant hard-court sweep

Italy’s Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run of form by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 to win the 2026 Miami Open title, capping off a remarkable stretch on the ATP Tour.

The victory means Sinner has now secured both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season — an achievement known as the “Sunshine Double.” His triumph further strengthens his position among the sport’s elite and keeps him firmly in pursuit of world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

Delivering a composed performance in the final, Sinner dominated on serve, winning an impressive 92 percent of his first-serve points. Despite interruptions caused by rain, the Italian remained focused, firing 10 aces and maintaining control throughout the match.

The title adds to an already historic run for Sinner, who has now claimed three consecutive Masters 1000 trophies, joining greats like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in achieving such a feat. He also became the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same year, doing so without dropping a set.

Reflecting on his success, Sinner credited his preparation and teamwork, describing the moment as special and rewarding after the effort put in during training.

“It has been an incredible swing for me and I’m extremely happy with the work we did to be in this position,” said Sinner.

“We had some good practice days before Indian Wells and seeing this kind of result makes me happy, as does the level we are trying to produce and the player we’re trying to achieve.”

Although still trailing Alcaraz in the ATP rankings, Sinner’s latest victory narrows the gap and signals a tightening race at the top as the tour shifts toward the clay season.
