Sanwo-Olu inaugurates 233 Abraham Adesanya units

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said delivery of housing units under his administration has recorded over 12, 000 units in six years as part of measures to bridge the housing deficit in the state.

This is coming as Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, commissioned 233 Housing Units, Parcel A and B, at Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate, Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Council Development Area, LCDA, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway of the state. The units consist of one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments.

Recall that the governor had, in October, commissioned 420 home units at Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Housing Estate, Ajara, Badagry, area of the state.

The event, amid heavy rainfall, was attended by dignitaries, including members of the state executive council, traditional leaders, All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftains and party faithful, market and community leaders, occupiers, among others.

Addressing guests, Sanwo-Olu said that additional housing projects would be ready for the public in the near future, which he described as a bold step toward actualising his administration’s vision of providing decent and affordable shelter for all residents under the THEMES Plus developmental agenda.

According to him, “This event is more than just the commissioning of buildings; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to the welfare of every Lagosian. The true measure of our progress will always be the well-being of our people.

“We are also introducing new financing models to make home ownership easier and affordable.

“Together, these projects reaffirm the state’s commitment to bridging the housing deficit and promoting inclusive development across its five divisions.

“This housing estate has been on for a while. We kept having to do new developments. There are more additional estates coming up here soon.

“Our aim is to continue to increase housing stock in the state. We have over 12, 000 housing units that have been added in the state so far.

“We are still having about 22 other projects waiting for completion. I urge the Ministry of Housing to move fast and put contractors on the spot for quick delivery in a timely manner. Delay will not be acceptable. Our mandate is to do more for the people.

“There are ongoing projects in Epe, Egan Igando, Ibeshe Phase 2, and others. These are the places we need to push our contractors to move fast.”

Sanwo-Olu assured that the state remains in active partnership with financial institutions and private developers to accelerate delivery of affordable homes under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.

As part of an effort at improving social infrastructure, the governor said plans were on to integrate renewable energy solutions into Lagos housing estates through collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, powering sewage plants and streetlights with solar energy.

Sanwo-Olu, therefore, urged new homeowners to maintain their environment responsibly and uphold the state’s vision of sustainable communities.

“Owning a home comes with responsibility. Please take pride in your estate, keep it clean, maintain the facilities, and protect its value,” Sanwo-Olu advised.

The governor also commended the Ministry of Housing, contractors, and residents for their support and patience during the project’s execution, which has some delays due to constant changes in planning structures.

Sanwo-Olu, particularly, hailed the supervising ministry and contractors for a job well done on the drainage system of the estate which witnessed heavy downpour on the inauguration day without visible flooding situation.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, popularly called MAF, in his address, explained that the estate consists of 34 blocks of 233 home units.

The project is a joint government-private venture partnership with a real estate development, executed by Urban Shelter firm, a private organisation. The estate was built on 3.7 hectares of land in the fully functional Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate.

Akinderu–Fatai stressed that “the Ministry remains committed to delivering affordable and quality homes, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s promise to complete all ongoing housing projects across Lagos State.”

“The main Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate was commissioned on January 15, 2001, by President Bola Tinubu, then Governor of Lagos State.
“This administration remains firmly committed to expanding access to decent housing across all income levels. Through ongoing and upcoming projects, reforms, and partnerships, we will continue to unlock more opportunities, promote home ownership, and deliver developments that are safe, inclusive, and future-ready,” Akinderu–Fatai said.
