Afrobeats producer and songwriter Afolabi Ebenezer Ayomide widely celebrated for his growing influence within Nigeria’s vibrant music scene has officially unveiled a new professional identity. Formerly known as SpecBeatz, the rising sound architect now wishes to be identified as BeatzbySpec, a transition he describes as a necessary step toward aligning with the next phase of his career and long-term creative vision.

For the young hitmaker, this rebrand represents far more than a name change. It marks a strategic shift toward better structuring his creative enterprises, defining his multiple roles and expanding his presence within the ever-evolving Afrobeats ecosystem. According to BeatzbySpec, the new identity allows him to clearly distinguish his work as a producer from his persona as a performing artiste; ensuring that each aspect of his craft grows with intention and clarity.

as Spec’s Lab, the production and recording outfit that powers his sound;

Ebenezer’s journey into music began long before he entered the professional space. As a child, he discovered his love for sound in the church, learning to play both the guitar and the keyboard. Encouraged by his mother who urged him to sing and stay rooted in choir activities he grew an early connection to music. While his foundation was formed in the church, his journey into production was largely self-taught. He spent countless hours studying online tutorials, especially on YouTube, gradually shaping the unique sonic identity that sets him apart today.

His first significant exposure to the production world came through Timmy Gee, whose music productions he supported as a keyboardist. Through Timmy Gee, he relocated to Lagos, where he deepened his skills and began building meaningful relationships within the industry.

During his early days in Lagos, another turning point emerged when he met WiseBee through Director TZ in a barter arrangement for a video shoot. That exchange evolved into a mentorship that exposed him to plugins, advanced tutorials and vital production knowledge. These experiences laid the groundwork for further guidance from respected creatives such as Zhestabad the producer and also Agege’s renowned production duo 2TBoyz, who helped refine his sound and expand his understanding of the Afrobeats production ecosystem.

Over the years, BeatzbySpec has built an impressive catalogue, collaborating with both established and emerging talents. His production credits include work with Rybeena, Oladips, Ladé, TeeMirror, BreezyBawz, DaProf, Doski, Lavish, Destiny Boy, Cazulee, Shaypee and several other promising Nigerian artistes who trust him to shape and define their sound. These collaborations have solidified his reputation as a versatile and innovative creator with a distinct sonic fingerprint.
