Police kill one bandit, arrest three others in Kebbi

Birnin Kebbi—The Kebbi State Police Command has neutralised one of the eight bandits who invaded the residence of one Alhaji Sani in the Botoro Gadi community, Mungadi area of Maiyama Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, two residents, identified as Muhafi Sani and Shamsiya Aliyu, were abducted during the attack.

The statement said that upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer in Maiyama led a combined team of police officers and local vigilantes who trailed the kidnappers and engaged them in a gun battle.

“As a result, one of the suspected kidnappers was killed, while his dane gun and one empty cartridge shell were recovered,” the statement read.

The statement further disclosed that another group of bandits attacked Kwari, a community in the Giron Masa area of Shanga Local Government Area, where two persons, identified as Suleiman and Yunwa Suleiman, were kidnapped.

“The Divisional Police Officer in Shanga mobilised a combined team of Policemen, Army personnel, and local vigilantes who engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel. During the encounter, the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled into the forest with fatal gunshot injuries,” the statement added.

In a related development, operatives arrested one Musa Muhammad at Takware village in Shanga with three rounds of live ammunition and 20 empty shells of 7.62×39mm calibre.
