Police arrest two suspects over attack on PDP Secretariat in Bauchi

BAUCHI — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Bauchi, which led to the vandalisation of property and disruption of political activities.

The suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the ‘B’ Division, GRA Bauchi, following an incident that occurred on May 24, 2026, during a political gathering linked to a governorship declaration event organised by a faction of the PDP in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the suspects were being investigated for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace and malicious damage.

He said unidentified persons had stormed the PDP Secretariat located along the Maiduguri Bypass while the party’s governorship primary election was ongoing, disrupting proceedings and causing panic.

According to the statement, the attackers vandalised campaign banners belonging to a governorship aspirant and smashed windscreens of several vehicles parked nearby before fleeing the scene on motorcycles.

The Police said intelligence-led investigation efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspects following the incident, which generated widespread attention on social media.

The suspects were identified as Hamza Abdullahi, popularly known as “Dawa,” of the area behind the Old Airport, Bauchi, and Abdul Malik Dahiru, also known as “Black,” of Doya area in the state capital.

They have since been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the process.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned against acts capable of undermining public peace, especially during political activities.

He assured residents that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order and will not tolerate political violence, thuggery or any form of criminality.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant, while encouraging timely reporting of suspicious activities to security agencies.
