Police arrest two suspected kingpins over sale of dummy phones in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kingpins allegedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting customers by selling dummy phones through a network of agents across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement while identifying the suspects as Audu Abubakar and Nasiru Hassan, both residents of Bauchi Street in Yola North Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested following complaints from victims who discovered that the phones they purchased were non-functional replicas.

“Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested two suspects for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting customers by selling them dummy phones instead of original working devices,” the statement read.

The police said several dummy phones and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects during the operation.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Hassan, directed that the suspects be thoroughly investigated and charged in court at the end of the entire process.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and deal with only accredited phone dealers in order to avoid falling victim to fraud.
