PDP carpets Aiyedatiwa over alleged convoy killing of teenager

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the death of a young man allegedly run over by the governor’s convoy.

According to the PDP, the deceased, Good Emiju, was knocked down by the governor’s convoy at Oka-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government, during Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of communities in the council.

While criticizing the governor for his silence on the incident, the opposition party, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, expressed concern over the hurried burial of the deceased.

The PDP is demanding a transparent explanation from the state government, with Wande Ajayi stating that the continued silence is unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.

“According to credible accounts, the victim was first rushed to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel were allegedly unable to adequately manage the situation due to the deplorable state of the facility. He was thereafter transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead. Shockingly, the young man has since been buried.

“To date, no official statement has been issued to inform the general public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain the circumstances under which a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy.”

However, Governor Aiyedatiwa has distanced himself from the incident, stressing that his convoy was not involved in the death.

In a statement through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said: “It is pertinent and necessary to categorically clarify that the Governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or on any day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 LGAs of the State.”
