PDP BoT assumes leadership after court ruling

ABUJA — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by its Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, has formally assumed administrative leadership of the party following a recent judgment by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Addressing members at the opening of the 84th BoT meeting on Sunday in Abuja, Wabara said the decision to step in was in line with the party’s constitution, aimed at preventing a leadership vacuum after the court ruling.

He explained that the judgment nullified the 2025 National Convention which produced the National Working Committee (NWC), thereby necessitating immediate intervention by the BoT to stabilise the party.

According to him, the BoT’s action has helped maintain continuity and reassure members amid the unfolding internal challenges.

Wabara disclosed that the party had since received widespread messages of support from members and stakeholders across the country, expressing confidence in the PDP’s ability to overcome its current crisis.

He commended members of the dissolved NWC, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, for what he described as their dedication and service to the party, as well as party leaders, governors, lawmakers and supporters for remaining steadfast.

The BoT chairman, however, traced the roots of the crisis to a series of events leading up to the planned 2025 convention, including internal disputes and legal challenges that ultimately culminated in the Supreme Court judgment.

Despite the setback, Wabara expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger, urging members to remain united and focused on rebuilding the party ahead of future elections.

He reaffirmed the BoT’s commitment to providing leadership, restoring stability and repositioning the party to play a significant role in Nigeria’s democratic process.
