Oyetty Foundation marks third anniversary, expands support for special needs families

The Oyetty Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting families raising children with special needs, has marked its third anniversary with a ceremony that reflected its growing impact and renewed commitment to vulnerable households.

Founded to empower parents caring for children with developmental and mental challenges, the foundation provides psychological counselling, financial assistance, caregiving support and social empowerment programmes to single parents, couples and caregivers.

In the last three years, the organisation has partnered with key institutions including Modupe Cole Special School, Akoka; Lagos State Special Needs School, Igbobi; Morainbow Down Syndrome Foundation; and Atundaolu School, to strengthen service delivery and expand its reach within the special needs community.

One of the highlights of the anniversary event was the donation of a Suzuki mini bus to Mr. Adenrele Onipede, a parent from Modupe Cole Special School, a gesture that drew emotional reactions and symbolised the foundation’s commitment to easing mobility challenges faced by caregivers.

Speaking at the event, founder Mrs. Oyetola Akande said the organisation remains focused on restoring hope and independence to parents.

“We have supported many parents to rebuild their lives. Some have started businesses, others returned to school or secured jobs. Our mission is to empower families caring for children with developmental conditions,” she said.

She also urged parents of children with special needs to embrace self-care as part of effective caregiving, stressing that a healthy parent is better equipped to raise a healthy child.

Presenting the foundation’s annual report, Mrs. Oluwatomi Alakija disclosed that over 25 parents received assistance in the past year, while more than 60 families have benefited since the foundation was established. She added that over ₦79 million has been provided in business support to help parents rebuild and sustain their livelihoods.
Mrs. Alakija also reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting early intervention for children with developmental challenges.

Commending the foundation’s work, Mr. Olusegun Akande praised the team for their dedication and urged them to sustain their culture of compassion and excellence.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Adeosun Anike, shared an emotional testimony of how the foundation transformed her life, describing the intervention as life-changing and encouraging other parents facing similar challenges to seek support.

As it enters its fourth year, the Oyetty Foundation has pledged to deepen its impact through stronger partnerships, expanded programmes and continuous support for families raising children with special needs.
