The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned that visa overstays by Nigerian travelers could negatively affect opportunities for other Nigerians seeking to travel to the U.S.

In a statement shared on social media, the U.S. Mission said compliance with visa rules is crucial to protecting access for Nigerians who travel responsibly for education, business, and family visits.

“Visa overstays by Nigerian travelers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens. Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travelers, and families who travel responsibly,” the mission said.

The embassy also urged the public to report suspected visa fraud, providing contact emails for its Fraud Prevention Units in Abuja and Lagos.

The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to curb immigration violations and fraud, which can influence visa policies and approval rates for travelers from affected countries.
