Osun 2026: Tinubu endorses Oyebamiji, not Adeleke, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term, insisting that the President’s support is solely for the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Speaking with journalists at the Ileri-Oluwa Campaign Office in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Wole Oke, described reports linking Tinubu to Adeleke’s re-election bid as false and misleading.

According to Oke, President Tinubu, as a longstanding member and leader of the APC, would not endorse a candidate outside the party ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

“We have been hearing reports circulating across the state that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Governor Adeleke for re-election. That is not true,” Oke said.

“The President’s endorsement and support are for the APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. He remains committed to the party and its candidate in the forthcoming election.”

He urged party supporters and members of the public to disregard what he described as unfounded claims regarding the President’s position on the governorship contest.

Meanwhile, the APC deputy governorship candidate, Engineer Kayode Adereti, called for peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

Adereti stressed that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, urging political actors to embrace democratic principles and avoid actions capable of undermining peace in the state.

He also appealed to traditional rulers to use their influence to promote harmony and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

“We are committed to a peaceful election. No blood should be shed over politics because elections are not wars. We will continue to play by the rules and encourage others to do the same,” he said.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, with political parties intensifying campaigns across the state.
