NUC approves 18 full-time academic programmes for UniJos

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has approved the establishment of 18 new full-time academic programmes in the University of Jos.
Abdullahi Abdullahi, the institution’s Senior Deputy Registrar, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the programmes, which are set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session, mark a significant expansion of the University’s academic offerings, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and addressing the evolving needs of students and the wider community.
Abdullahi stated that the approval came after a comprehensive Resource Verification visit conducted by the NUC, where it assessed the human and material resources available at the University for the successful establishment of these programmes.
According to Abdullahi, the evaluation ensured that the University of Jos is well-equipped to provide quality education in these new fields.
“The new academic programmes encompass a diverse range of disciplines, including B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Information Systems, and B.Sc. Information Technology,” he said.
“Other programmes approved by the NUC are B.A. Philosophy, B.A. Ed. Music Education, B.A. Ed. Fine Arts and Applied Arts Education, B.Ed. Primary Education, B.Sc. Ed. Agricultural Science Education, and B.Sc. Ed. Business Education.
“The Commission further granted approval for the establishment of programmes in B.RAD. Radiography, D.P.T. Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, B.Sc. Public Administration, B.Sc. Forensic Science, B.Sc. Pharmacology, and B.Sc. Social Work.
“The Commission stipulated that these programmes are currently approved for full-time undergraduate delivery only, with the potential for future expansion into postgraduate offerings requiring further notification to the NUC for proper record-keeping.
“This approval represents a milestone in the University’s commitment to excellence and preparing students to meet the challenges of contemporary times with much-needed skills and knowledge,” he added.
