Nasarawa ADC suspends state chairman over alleged anti-party, sets up disciplinary panel

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has suspended its State Chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) following a petition accusing Williams of actions deemed harmful to the unity and growth of the party in the state.

The decision was taken during a TLT meeting held on Wednesday at Otunsha Hotel in Keffi, under the leadership of Chief John Michael Abdul.

In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Comrade Idris Ojoko, the suspension will last for 14 days, during which investigations will be conducted by a disciplinary committee constituted by the TLT.

Ojoko disclosed that Barrister Paul Magaji Ajeh, formerly the State Secretary, has been appointed Acting State Chairman, while Umar A. Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary.

The allegations against Williams include failure to recognise the party’s National Working Committee led by Senator David Mark, refusal to integrate coalition members into the ADC structure in Nasarawa State, and reporting some party leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police, allegedly describing them as impostors.

He is also accused of setting up parallel party structures across the state, obstructing the establishment of party offices at the state, local government, and ward levels in defiance of NWC directives, as well as interfering with the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise.

The party spokesman further announced the formation of a disciplinary committee to probe the allegations.

The committee will be chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu, with Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday, and Yunus Abdullahi Sidi as members, while Gaza Mark Auta will serve as Secretary.
