Nigerian Govt bans vehicle imports without certification

The Nigerian government has announced a ban on the importation of used vehicles without proper certification, introducing stricter regulations for automotive imports into the country.
The minister of state for industry, trade, and investment, John Enoh, made this known on Tuesday during an event organized by the National Automotive Design and Development Council.
According to him, the directive is part of the government’s policy framework known as the Standard Organisation of Nigeria–National Automotive Design and Development Council Vehicle Conformity Assessment Programme.
Enoh explained that the policy introduces a strict “no certification, no entry” rule for all vehicles — both new and used — being brought into the country.
Under the new regulation, all vehicles must obtain pre-shipment certification before they can be processed for importation into Nigeria.
He stressed that the policy is not experimental but a fully adopted government directive that takes effect immediately upon implementation.
“No vehicle or automotive product shall be imported, cleared, registered, or licensed without valid certification,” Enoh said.
He warned that any vehicle that fails to comply with the certification requirement would face denial of clearance, possible seizure, or other sanctions in line with existing laws.
