NDLEA nabs two female online drug traffickers in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said it has arrested two suspected female social media influencers allegedly specializing in illicit online drugs in Benin City.
The state’s NDLEA Commander, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the agency also dismantled the online drug cell of the suspects.
Ofoyeju gave the names of the suspects as Praise Nwogu, 19, also known as Candy, and Ebong Emem Oghosa, 25.
He alleged that the suspects specialized in lacing cookies with cannabis.
He said the arrests follow6 weeks of persistent surveillance and intelligence gathering on how to dislodge the online drug ring involved in lacing cookies with cannabis.
The Edo State NDLEA boss alleged that the suspects were apprehended with various confectioneries that tested positive for cannabis.
While disclosing that the suspects were arrested during an operation conducted on November 22, 2025, he noted that the swift actions taken by the operatives of the Command emphasise the agency’s readiness to respond to the evolving tactics of online drug traffickers.
Ofoyeju said Praise Nwogu, who hails from Imo State and resides in Benin City, was found in possession of 12 plates and a cup of brownies infused with cannabis indica.
He alleged that she is the brain behind the online promotion with numerous videos on different channels.
According to him, Ebong Emem Oghosa, from Akwa Ibom State and resident in Benin City, is believed to be the production expert.
During the arrest, she was found with 76 grams of cannabis sativa and 1.5 grams of Colorado (a potent form of cannabis) as well as one big pan and a plate of brownies.
Ofoyeju issued a stern warning to individuals hiding under the canopy of online drug trafficking to prepare for the agency’s arrest.
He said investigation into the case is ongoing, and the suspects will soon be charged to court.
“This operation underscored the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug-related offences and ensures that the law is upheld firmly against those who choose to engage in the production and distribution of illegal substance
“This should serve as a clear message to all perpetrators of online drug peddling that they have no place to hide. This unfortunate development is very concerning, as innocent customers do not know that the cookies are laced with illicit drugs, including synthetic cannabis known as Colorado.
“Engaging in the manufacturing and distribution of cookies laced with illicit drugs, especially those harmful to our youth and society, has severe consequences.
“When they advertise their products online, they will not state that the cookies are laced with illicit drugs. How would you feel if your drug test proved positive for cannabis through their cookies? It is fraudulent and unacceptable.
“This can be very devastating for a patient, especially young students and other unsuspecting members of the society. Members of the public must be careful what they eat,” he stated.
He urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or drug-related issues in their communities to the NDLEA, noting that the society can be a healthier place when people collaborate with law enforcement agencies.
