NAFEST 2025 postponed amid National Security concerns

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has announced the postponement of the 2025 edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), which was originally scheduled to begin on Saturday, 21 November 2025, in Enugu State.

In a statement signed by Dr. Nneka Ikem Anibeze, SA Media & Publicity to the Minister, the decision was taken following a careful assessment of the national mood and the recent insecurity incidents across various parts of the country.

Honourable Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa, in consultation with stakeholders, explained that the postponement was made in solidarity with affected families and communities, and out of respect for the lives lost.

“Given the current national situation, it is more respectful and responsible to postpone the festival rather than proceed at a time when many citizens are grieving,” the statement said.

NAFEST, which brings together cultural troupes from across the country, is regarded as a vital platform for nation-building, promoting unity, social cohesion, and cultural diplomacy. This year’s edition had over 28 states already preparing to participate, aiming to project a message of national resilience and inclusiveness.

The Ministry assured that a new date for NAFEST 2025 will be announced following consultations with state governments, cultural institutions, and security agencies, to ensure the festival takes place in a secure and celebratory atmosphere.

The Ministry expressed appreciation for the understanding of participating states, cultural troupes, partners, and the Nigerian public, reaffirming its commitment to showcasing the country’s rich cultural diversity.
