Senator Jide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, has sponsored a bill to review an act to upgrade the Technical College, Owo to Federal Technical College of Education and the Petroleum Industry Act (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Both bills, have passed the First Reading at the Senate during plenary.

Ipinsagba said that the two bills are centred on touching human lives and in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

The bill to review an act to upgrade the Technical College, Owo to Federal Technical College of Education, was aimed at reviving the almost neglected Technical school in the ancient town of Owo.

Ipinsagba while speaking on the Federal College of Education bill, said that he was moved by the worrisome state of infrastructural decay observable in the school, which he described as a pride some years ago.

He explained that education at all levels must be given its pride of place to meet up with technological advancement.

According to him: “This will bring affordable education and attainment of knowledge closer to the people.”

“The Federal Colleges of Education listed in the Act, shall function among other things provide full-time courses of teaching, instruction and training in technology, applied science, commerce, arts, social sciences, humanities and management and to carry out research in the development and adaptation of techniques.

” It shall also make provision for the appointment of a Provost and the officials of each College to carry out the administration and the discipline of students of the College.

The lawmaker said that he would continue to do what will make the Youth in Ondo North Senatorial District more engaging for self reliance.

The Government Technical College, Owo, a state-owned technical college was established in 1988, offering courses like Electrical Installation & Maintenance Work, Motor Vehicle Mechanics Works, Radio, Television & Electronics Work, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.

Meanwhile, the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA (Amendment) Bill 2025 ,seeks to amend the Petroleum Industry Act No. 6, 2021, to require lessees, licensees and permit holders to conduct quarterly environmental audits of upstream petroleum operations to improve accountability regarding environmental impacts and to provide more funding for economic development of host communities.
