Kwara: Police officer killed, market looted as bandits launch attack on Babanla

A police officer was killed, and a local market was looted after about 200 armed bandits attacked Babanla town in Kwara State on Friday afternoon.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared a post on X on Saturday.

According to Makama, bandits arrived on motorbikes around 1:00 p.m.

“They first attacked the Babanla Police Station, where ASP Adejumo Wasiu, attached to the ACPOL Offa, was shot dead. The attackers also took his AK-47 rifle,” Makama wrote.

According to sources who spoke with Makama, the police station was ransacked, but no other weapons were stolen because all were on charge at the time.

“After attacking the police station, the bandits moved to the town market, where they looted large amounts of food and other goods.”

A joint security team made up of the military, police, vigilantes, and local hunters quickly responded and managed to repel the attackers, restoring peace to the town.

As of now, there is no information on civilian casualties resulting from the attack.
