Kokcii unveils new EP, reaffirms cultural roots, global ambition

Nigerian-born afrobeat and pop artiste, Samuel Bassey Ekwa, better known as Kokcii, has announced the release of his new extended play (EP) titled “Kokcii Is the Vibe.” The US based singer says the project represents resilience, cultural identity and his commitment to sharing meaningful messages through music.
Born in Calabar Municipality, Kokcii explained that the EP was inspired by his personal journey and determination to remain focused on his dreams. According to him, the project “embodies resilience and an unwavering commitment to following my dreams.”
The artist, who recently adopted the stage name Kokcii, said the change was a deliberate decision aimed at reconnecting with his roots. He noted that Kokcii was his childhood tribal nickname, one that reflects his cultural background and grounds him in his creative process.
Speaking about what influences his sound, the singer said his music is shaped by instrumentals that evoke deep emotions. “My music comes from a place of selflessness and spiritual guidance,” he said. “I express whatever the beat evokes in my heart.”
Since relocating to the United States, Kokcii says the reception to his music has been positive, with audiences in Africa and the Western world connecting with his message. However, he admits to missing home, especially the Lagos creative environment, his family, and the energy that inspires his artistic growth. He remains optimistic about his future in the music industry and intends to stay committed to achieving greatness. “I am dedicated to striving for success while trusting the higher power that guides me,” he added.
Kokcii lives by the principle of positivity, a mindset he believes helps him navigate challenges.
With the release of “Kokcii Is the Vibe,” the singer is positioning himself as one of the emerging voices to watch in the evolving afrobeat and pop music scenes.
