Kefas presents N650bn ‘Budget of Demonstration’ for 2026

Jalingo — Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Wednesday presented a N650 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Tagged the “Budget of Demonstration,” the proposal places strong emphasis on infrastructure, energy, and social development, with a significant boost to capital expenditure.

According to the breakdown, N457.74 billion (70.6%) is allocated to capital projects, while N192.89 billion (29.64%) is set aside for recurrent spending.

Governor Kefas said the budget would be funded through a mix of statutory revenue sources, including FAAC allocations, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), aids and grants, and capital receipts. He added that the administration aims to expand its revenue base by strengthening digital revenue systems and tapping opportunities in agriculture, mining, property, business, and tourism.

Highlighting key spending priorities, the governor allocated 19.84% of the budget to Roads and Transport, followed by Education and Skill Development at 15.98%.

Other major allocations include:

Healthcare: 6.19%

Agriculture and Food Security: 4.83%

Water and Sanitation: 3.19%

Security and Emergency Services: 2.96%

Kefas also underscored the importance of energy, pledging investments in solar mini-grids, hybrid rural electrification, street lighting, and improved power supply for schools, hospitals, markets, and agro-processing hubs.

Speaker of the House, John Bozena, commended the governor for the budget’s alignment with fiscal guidelines and for what he described as prudent management of state resources. He assured that the Assembly would ensure a speedy passage of the bill within its legislative timeline.
