Kebbi Assembly adopts MTEF, fiscal strategy paper for 2027–2031

Kebbi State House of Assembly has adopted the state’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP, for 2027–2031.

The House adopted the documents during plenary on Tuesday following the presentation of a report by the joint committee on finance and appropriation, and budget monitoring, economic planning and due process.

The committee’s chairman, Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri, said the framework would guide the preparation of annual budgets and ensure alignment with the state’s development plans.

He said the document prioritises people-oriented programmes and projects while seeking to maximise existing and potential economic opportunities.

Birnin Yauri added that the framework complies with the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and relevant state laws on public finance, fiscal responsibility, procurement and auditing.

He said it also considers global economic indicators and Nigeria’s economic conditions to reflect prevailing domestic and international realities.

The committee chairman described the projections as realistic, considering the economic climate and efforts to improve internally generated revenue.

He urged lawmakers to adopt the documents as a foundation for fiscal sustainability and economic growth.

Muhammad Garba Bena moved the motion for adoption, while Muhammad Buhari Aleiro seconded it.

The Speaker, Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote, and the House adopted the report and the documents.

The Assembly is expected to transmit the documents to Governor Nasir Idris for assent.
